Alaskan Natives live in regions frequently affected by tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, wildfires, severe rainstorms, blizzards, and sub-zero temperatures.
Alaska Natives should be prepared to handle the following situations during a natural disaster:
- Limited medical and emergency response services since Alaskan cities are typically spread far apart
- Disruption of sanitation, water, and other public utilities following earthquakes and other disasters
- High food, oil, and other commodity prices, which make it difficult to store extra supplies and save money
